JUNE 30

God Hears

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

—Psalm 55:17

Chronic pain is a harsh reality for many people, possibly for you too. We live in an imperfect world, and nothing we do prevents all suffering and pain. You can take action to ease your pain or the pain of someone else, and you can hope and pray for a cure. You also can look to the One who can help. King David was suffering great distress because a friend had betrayed him. This broke his heart, and though he was not suffering physically, he suffered great emotional trauma. In spite of this, he took comfort in the knowledge that God heard his cry for help.

Your suffering causes you to empathize with others and creates an awareness of how others feel when they are in pain. When you live bravely and cope well with your pain, you can be an example to others that pain does not have to control them. The greater hope is that God hears when you cry out to Him. Thank God that there will be no pain or tears in heaven, but when you suffer while here on earth, you can be confident that God hears your cry.

Dear Lord, thank You that You hear me when I call to You in distress. Help me to bear my sorrow one moment at a time. Amen.
